Worth the Wait: Family-Based Immigration
Immigration is complex, and U.S. immigration especially so. Many times, the smiles on our clients’ faces are what make all the hard work worthwhile. A recent family-based immigration case was one of these joyous occasions.
At ImLaw, we primarily work on business-based immigration cases with employers and employees. However, we have also assisted clients with family-based immigration matters. Family-based immigration is the process by which a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, age 21 or older, may sponsor a qualifying relative for an immigrant visa/green card status.
In this particular instance, a family of three—father, mother, and young son—was seeking reunification in the U.S. The mother and son were residing in the U.S. while the father was abroad. The COVID pandemic created severe backlogs in processing time for the father’s case. Nearly 4 million people are currently waiting abroad in the family-based immigration backlogs (fwd.us).
In this scenario, it is easy for clients to lose hope. Our team of attorneys started the process by asking questions to better understand their case. Based on this information, we provided legal counsel on the best course of action and how to present the details of their case for the most favorable outcome under law.
When the father’s green card application was approved, a close friend of the family shared, “You may already know this, but he has arrived! I just wanted to give you a big shout out of thanks and gratitude for your patience, hard work, and commitment to our partnership in reuniting this family!”
They shared photos of the happy reunion, which included a bouquet of flowers and a special cake. The best part was seeing this family able to hug one another again, no longer separated. “All in God’s time,” said the client. “Thanks for all your support and expertise! Praise God for this miracle of love and family, thanks to your team.”
