Work Visas and Green Cards for Foreign Language Immersion Teachers

For educational organizations, employment-based immigration can be critical to growing their team with the best talent.

When a Michigan school district was expanding its team for a specialized education program, they turned to ImLaw for help. The district includes 18 schools serving students from kindergarten to 12th grade (K–12).  A key component of the district’s offerings is specialized language programming that provides students with a robust foreign language immersive education. The district was facing challenges in securing work visas and green cards for foreign national teachers who were uniquely qualified for the immersion teacher positions.

Our attorneys created a plan for the school district to secure work visas for the teacher candidates that avoided the dreaded unknowns of the annual H-1B lottery and cap by successfully pursuing H-1B cap-exempt work visas for the teachers. ImLaw’s attorneys also developed and executed a path to green card status for the immersion teachers to remain working for the district on a permanent basis.

While employment-based immigration can be a complex and lengthy process, ImLaw walked alongside the school district every step of the way. The assistant superintendent shared, “Susan's team understands the value of these programs to our community and has provided us with exceptional support. They understand our needs and compassionately and efficiently keep our time and effort to a minimum while Susan's team assumes the burden of the process.”

For educational organizations, employment-based immigration can be critical to growing their team with the best talent. However, the complexities of the process can prove to be a difficult, seemingly impossible barrier. Our client stated, “Providing specialized language programming for our students was challenging before we found Susan Im and her team at ImLaw. Now, we can focus on teaching students rather than working through the complex process of acquiring visas and green cards. We value their expertise and efficiency and trust them implicitly to manage the process for us. Truly, we would not be able to offer these learning opportunities without the support of ImLaw.”

ImLaw is honored to help school districts like our client retain their talented foreign language immersion teachers, which immensely benefits students and the community as a whole.
